Treatment Templates in DigitalTCO

If you’ve already read the article on Understanding DigitalTCO Templates, then you’re well-prepared for setting up treatment templates. Unlike examination templates, which manage a variety of variables and deviations, treatment templates are much simpler. Treatment templates follow a consistent protocol with only minor adjustments, making them straightforward to set up and manage.

Creating an Ideal Treatment Baseline

A treatment template is based on your ideal protocol for that specific treatment—your perfect baseline. The goal is to create a template that reflects your routine steps for a given procedure, such as a filling or extraction, so you only need to document any deviations from this standard.

How to Set Up a Treatment Template:

  1. Use a Completed Note as Your Template:

Take a previously documented treatment note from a successful case where everything went as planned. This will serve as your baseline, reflecting your exact treatment protocol.

  2. Avoid Fill-in-the-Blanks and Multiple-Choice Options:

Just like with exam templates, treatment templates should not have any blanks, checkboxes, or multiple-choice fields. Instead, each section should contain specific, pre-filled outcomes that you typically achieve when the treatment goes smoothly.

  3. Document Only Deviations:

With your ideal protocol established, your notes are streamlined. When recording a treatment, you’ll only need to tell DigitalTCO any minor adjustments, such as if you used a different matrix band, a deeper filling, or a different shade.

Customizing Your Templates

DigitalTCO makes it easy to customize and refine your treatment templates. You can update these templates any time in the Customize Your Templates section.

Steps to Customize:

  1. Access the Customize Section:

Go to Customize > Your Templates and select the treatment template you want to adjust.

  2. Edit Local Anesthetic Details:

You’ll find a Local Anesthetic section in the top bar of the Customize area. Here, you can save your preferred local anesthetic batch numbers and expiration dates. If your practice opens a new bag of anesthetic, simply update this section, so the template pulls in the latest details automatically.

  3. Review and Refine Protocols:

Each template should reflect your routine treatment protocol as accurately as possible, so review them occasionally to ensure they match any new standards or minor changes in your practice.

Why Treatment Templates Save Time

Since treatments typically follow a structured process, treatment templates allow DigitalTCO to streamline your documentation even further by requiring minimal updates. By starting with a reliable, standardized protocol, you can:

  • Save time by only documenting deviations.
  • Maintain consistency in records.
  • Improve efficiency by standardizing your workflows.

With DigitalTCO, your treatment templates are set up to work like a reliable baseline that reflects the way you perform each treatment.

This approach eliminates the need for repetitive entry of the obvious things that you do every time!
