Recording Multiple Treatments with Different LAs in Treatment Notes
When carrying out multiple treatments during the same appointment, it’s important that the local anaesthetic (LA) and injection site accurately reflect which tooth was treated. Here's how to ensure that within DigitalTCO:
Scenario 1: Multiple Treatments in Different Areas or Different Treatment Types (Different LAs)
If you're performing treatments on separate teeth or quadrants (e.g., Upper Right 7 and Lower Left 6), or carrying out different types of treatment (e.g., a composite and a crown prep), each with a different LA:
- Open Treatment Notes from the left-hand side.
Click on the type of treatment you performed first (e.g., Composite).
Select the first treatment area (e.g., UR7):
- Choose the LA used (e.g., Articaine)
- Choose the injection site (e.g., Buccal Infiltration)
- Do not click "Additional LA".
Instead, click Add Treatment (located next to the green-labelled treatment tab).
Type the second treatment (e.g., Crown Prep) in the search bar and select the second treatment site (e.g., LL6):
- Choose the second LA (e.g., Lidocaine)
- Choose the injection site (e.g., IDB)
- Click Send to AI to generate a note clearly stating each LA and its corresponding treatment.
Scenario 2: Additional LA in the Same Area
If you're treating the same quadrant or tooth and need more than one injection (e.g., different type of LA or additional site):
On the treatment page, click Additional LA.
Use this when:
- You’re topping up anaesthesia in the same quadrant.
- You're using a different LA (e.g., Articaine initially, followed by Lidocaine).
- You’re using a different injection site (e.g., Buccal Infiltration followed by IDB).
Summary
- Use Add Treatment for:
- Different areas.
- Different types of treatment.
Different LAs per treatment site.
Use Additional LA for:
- Multiple injections in the same area.
- Different LA types or injection sites within a single treatment site.
Following these steps ensures your notes are clinically accurate and clearly reflect what took place during the appointment. If you have questions, our support team is happy to help!
